Stroud Family Colorado 1923 — Dolphus Stroud Olympics

The Stroud Family Story

The Stroud family has been part of Colorado Springs since the early 1900s. Kelley Dolphus Stroud, a man of African, Native American, and European heritage, became a symbol of perseverance when he walked nearly 2,000 miles to reach the 1928 Olympic trials in Boston — denied the funding that was freely given to white competitors.

The Stroud Leadership Academy continues his legacy today, nurturing future leaders through mentorship, education, and the arts.
